With the New Orleans economy struggling, small businesses are in constant competition with one another to keep and attract qualified employees.

Often, that means offering benefits that help new parents take time off after having a baby. “Generous (maternity and paternity) leave can be a real retention and recruitment tool,” said Drew Burnside, a management employment lawyer for New Orleans’ Coats Rose Law Firm. “It can make a faithful and dedicated employee.”

Attorneys say prenuptial, postnuptial agreements can save marriages. New Orleans CityBusiness, Maria Barrios

Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements are not romantic, but attorney Debra Kesler said they can save a marriage. “People don’t have to turn to divorce if they are fighting over financial issues,” said Kesler, a Metairie-based solo practitioner. “Postnuptial agreements are a wonderful tool to solving financial disputes while prenuptial agreements are good way of deterring fighting over finances in the future.”
